The Premier League champions Liverpool have agreed a deal with Bayern Munich for hiring the services of experienced midfielder Thiago Alcantara.

The 29-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to Anfield over the previous few weeks as the Spaniard seeks to exit the Bavarians after their treble-winning campaign.

Manchester United were also credited with an interest in the player, but now the Reds have won the transfer race.

The report further says that the transfer fee is around £25 million and Jurgen Klopp’s side must agree personal terms with the Spain international, which is believed to be not a big issue at this stage.

The Bundesliga giants wanted the 29-year-old’s exit completed before the beginning of the new season, which will start on Friday with the Allianz Arena hosting Schalke.

Thiago is set to bring the curtain down on a seven-year spell in German football where he lifted seven Bundesliga titles in a row and also claimed a Champions League trophy plus four DFB-Pokals.

During his time in Munich, the Spaniard racked up 235 appearances in all competitions, smashing 31 goals and creating 37 assists.

German boss Hansi Flick confirmed the midfielder was departing the Allianz Arena on Thursday and congratulated the Reds for signing such a talented footballer.

“Thiago is an exceptional player who spent seven hugely successful years here,” he said.

“He’s a wonderful person and an outstanding professional. It was very emotional today when he said goodbye to us all.

“I can only congratulate Liverpool as they got a great player and especially a great person.”
