Chelsea on verge of signing Mike Maignan

Chelsea are on the verge of completing the signing of AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan, with the deal expected to be finalised tomorrow, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Blues have reached an agreement with Milan for a reported fee of €18 million after lengthy negotiations. Chelsea initially proposed a lower fee and even explored swap options involving Djordje Petrovic and Kepa Arrizabalaga, but Milan insisted on a straight cash deal.

Why Chelsea Moved for Maignan

Mike Maignan, once overlooked at PSG, rose to prominence at Lille and became a key figure for Milan after joining them in 2021. However, with just a year left on his contract and renewal talks stalling due to form and fitness concerns, Milan were open to a sale.

Chelsea have been monitoring Maignan’s situation closely. While Robert Sánchez performed solidly last season, new manager Enzo Maresca wanted a more commanding presence between the posts. Maignan fit the bill as a top-tier shot-stopper ready for the Premier League challenge.

Final Steps Before the Announcement

With personal terms already agreed, Chelsea are pushing to complete the paperwork before the 10th June deadline to include Maignan in their Club World Cup squad. Barring any last-minute hitches, an official announcement is expected within 24 hours.
