Arsenal lining up move for Jeremy Jacquet

Arsenal have officially entered the race to sign highly-rated French defender Jeremy Jacquet, with Fabrizio Romano confirming that the Gunners have made initial contact with Stade Rennais to express their interest.

The 20-year-old, who is quickly emerging as one of France’s most exciting young defensive talents, has caught the eye of Mikel Arteta and his recruitment team — and a move to North London could be on the cards sooner rather than later.

Who Is Jeremy Jacquet?

Jacquet is a product of the Stade Rennais youth academy and made the leap to senior football in early 2024. He spent a season on loan at Ligue 2 side Clermont Foot, where he impressed with his composure, versatility, and maturity beyond his years. In 24 appearances, the young defender even chipped in with four goal contributions — an impressive feat for a player in his position.

Upon his return to Rennes, Jacquet continued his upward trajectory, featuring in 12 first-team matches and attracting interest from top European clubs — with Arsenal now leading the chase.

Arsenal View Jacquet as a Future Star

Arsenal’s scouting department has been tracking Jacquet for months and believes he possesses the qualities to thrive in Arteta’s tactical system. The Gunners admire his versatility — Jacquet is capable of playing both as a full-back and a defensive midfielder — and view him as a potential long-term asset.

Despite Rennais tying the youngster down to a new contract until 2029, Arsenal are undeterred. A summer bid is being considered, although any serious move may hinge on outgoings from the current squad.

A Move Now or a Watchful Wait?

Should Arsenal decide not to pull the trigger this summer, they’ll continue monitoring Jacquet closely with a view to launching a formal bid in 2026. But with the defender’s stock rising fast, the Gunners might act swiftly to fend off competition from rival clubs.
