Manchester United Eye Surprise Move for Aleksandar Mitrovic

Manchester United are reportedly exploring a shock move for Al Hilal striker Aleksandar Mitrovic as they look to bolster their attacking options ahead of the new season, according to Caught Offside.

Red Devils Searching for a Reliable No.9

Having already secured the signings of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, United remain eager to strengthen their front line further. While Rasmus Hojlund and new arrival Joshua Zirkzee provide youth and promise, the club appears keen on adding a more experienced presence — with Mitrovic emerging as a potential target.

The Serbian forward, who previously impressed in the Premier League with Newcastle United and Fulham, could be in line for a dramatic return to English football. Since moving to Saudi side Al Hilal in 2023, Mitrovic has been in sensational form, netting 40 and 28 goals in his last two seasons.

United Face Competition

Manchester United aren’t the only club monitoring the 29-year-old. Tottenham Hotspur are also interested, while Newcastle could pursue a sensational reunion — potentially involving a swap deal with striker Alexander Isak. Given both Al Hilal and Newcastle are backed by the Saudi Public Investment Fund, such negotiations could be facilitated.

Budget Constraints Shift Focus

United’s initial striker targets this summer — including Liam Delap, Hugo Ekitike, and Viktor Gyokeres — have slipped away to rival clubs. Financial limitations have also ruled out high-profile names like Benjamin Sesko, Nicolas Jackson, and Ollie Watkins.

This makes Mitrovic a viable, cost-effective option. A transfer could be on the table if Al Hilal are open to a cut-price deal around £20 million — and if the striker agrees to a significant wage reduction.

A Depth Option, Not a Guaranteed Starter

Should a move materialise, Mitrovic would likely compete with Hojlund and Zirkzee for minutes, rather than walk straight into the starting XI. United’s strategy this summer has centred on acquiring proven Premier League talent, and Mitrovic fits the mould.

Whether the Red Devils follow up their interest with a formal offer remains to be seen — but a Premier League return for Mitrovic now seems a genuine possibility.
