Liverpool Join Chelsea in Transfer Race for Bournemouth Midfielder Alex Scott

Liverpool have reportedly entered the chase for Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott, setting up a potential battle with Chelsea, according to TEAMtalk.

Why Liverpool Want a New Midfielder

The Reds sold Curtis Jones during the summer but did not bring in a replacement. Andoni Iraola therefore relies on Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Trey Nyoni in central areas. Wataru Endo offers cover but has drifted to the fringes, while Nyoni remains young and still needs time to develop.

The report suggests Liverpool are now weighing up options for next year, with Iraola’s previous working relationship with Scott at Vitality Stadium proving a significant factor.

Chelsea Still Keeping Tabs

Chelsea remain admirers despite seeing a formal bid rejected by the Cherries in the summer window. Although they sold Enzo Fernandez on deadline day, the Blues did not sign a midfield replacement and are expected to revisit the position in 2027.

Bournemouth Plan New Contract

Scott’s current deal runs until 2028, and the south-coast club have no intention of selling. Marco Rose’s side reportedly want to tie him down to a fresh long-term agreement, even including a release clause to convince him, having seen him turn down several offers already.

The box-to-box midfielder has started the season well, following a campaign in which Bournemouth finished sixth and secured Europa League football. His form earned an England call-up from Thomas Tuchel for the September/October internationals. Transfermarkt values him at around £43m.

Our Take on the Scott Saga

Scott looks a shrewd option for either club. He is energetic, versatile and still has plenty of room to grow, which suits Liverpool’s need for long-term depth as much as Chelsea’s.

However, the release clause could prove pivotal, and I suspect the real tussle begins in January or next summer.
