Newcastle United Scout Valencia Teenager David Otorbi in La Liga

Newcastle United sent two coaches to the Mestalla to watch Valencia’s 18-year-old winger David Otorbi face Racing Santander, according to MARCA.

What Did Newcastle Make of Otorbi?

The Magpies want to add a young attacker to their forward line next year. MARCA reports their representatives were impressed by his attitude on the pitch, noting that he never shied away from a challenge.

Who Is David Otorbi?

Otorbi joined Valencia from CF Malvarrosa in 2019 and progressed through the academy. He became the club’s youngest-ever debutant in January 2024, aged 16 years, two months and 19 days.

This season he has played 295 minutes across seven La Liga appearances, and he scored his first senior goal against Racing Santander.

Why Newcastle Are Interested

Newcastle appear to be prioritising young talent following Eddie Howe’s exit. Sean Steur and Aladji Bamba arrived in the summer, and with Jacob Murphy’s future uncertain, a winger of Otorbi’s profile makes sense.

He already has a strong physique and quick pace, both of which troubled defenders in the Racing game. Owen Emeka has also been linked with the club, so Otorbi is not the only option.

Our Opinion

With less than two years left on his Valencia contract, Otorbi could become an attractive and relatively affordable target. If his form continues, Newcastle may need to act quickly before other Premier League clubs step in.
