Aston Villa weighing up Kieran Trippier approach

Aston Villa have reportedly “explored” the possibility of signing Atletico Madrid right-back Kieran Trippier.

The 29-year-old defender joined Atleti from Tottenham Hotspur last summer and has since gone on to make 33 appearances for the Spanish club in all competitions.

However, according to The Telegraph, Trippier could be available in this summer, and Aston Villa manager Dean Smith wants to secure a deal ahead of the new campaign.

The English boss wants to bolster his leaky defence after his team’s backline had the second worst record last season, conceding 67 goals in the English top flight.

The report adds that the Midlands club are open to taking the England international on loan if they fail to secure a permanent deal with Los Rojiblancos.

Trippier racked up 114 appearances for Spurs before leaving the north Londoners behind to make the move to the Madrid giants.
