Atletico Madrid keen on deal for Marcos Alonso

Atletico Madrid have reportedly “explored” the possibility of signing Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso during this summer’s transfer window.

The 31-year-old has been in impressive form for the Blues during the 2021-22 campaign, contributing one goal and three assists from 27 appearances in all competitions.

The Spain international had been linked with a move away from Chelsea earlier this season, but he will not be allowed to leave Stamford Bridge in January following Ben Chilwell’s knee surgery.

Alonso is in the final 18 months of his contract with the European champions, though, and there have been speculations that he could be on the move at the end of the season.

According to Marca, Atletico head coach Diego Simeone views the Spaniard as a leading target, with the Argentine boss determined to sign a new left wing-back ahead of 2022-23 season.

Alonso has scored 25 goals and provided 20 assists in 193 appearances for the Blues in all competitions.
