Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a potential transfer move for the Brazilian winger Pepe as they look to bolster their attacking options for the upcoming 2023-24 season.

A report from A Bola via SportWitness suggests that Spurs have identified the 26-year-old FC Porto forward as a prime target.

Pepe made the switch to Porto from Grêmio in the summer of 2021 and has thrived ever since. Despite his modest goal contributions of 27 in 97 appearances, the winger has consistently delivered exceptional performances on the pitch.

During the recently concluded 2022-23 season, Pepe has contributed 10 assists and five goals in his 55 outings. He formed a vital part of Porto’s attacking force alongside the Iranian striker Mehdi Taremi. Unsurprisingly, his performances have attracted interest from numerous clubs vying for his signature.

Tottenham have wasted no time in exploring potential targets to strengthen their squad. While the new manager Ange Postecoglou is seeking reinforcements across various positions, his primary focus lies on enhancing the attacking department. Despite possessing formidable attacking talent, the North London club have heavily relied on star striker Harry Kane.

The desire to alleviate the burden on Kane’s shoulders has led Tottenham to pursue a player of Pepe’s caliber. The Brazilian winger possesses the ability to contribute goals and inject creativity into the team’s play. Although Paris Saint-Germain have also shown interest in Pepe, Tottenham have already taken steps to secure his services, potentially placing them at the forefront of the race.

However, the initial bid submitted by Spurs are expected to fall short of Porto’s valuation. The Portuguese club have set a significant price tag of €75 million as Pepe’s release clause, while Tottenham’s offer is considerably below this figure. It remains to be seen how Spurs will respond to Porto’s demands and whether they will make an improved offer for the talented winger.
