West Ham United Eye Permanent Morato Deal After Impressive Loan Spell

Hammers Want to Make Brazilian Defender’s Move Permanent

West Ham United are already looking beyond this campaign and are keen to keep Morato beyond his loan spell from Nottingham Forest. Football Insider reports that the Hammers hold an option to buy the 25-year-old and would like to trigger it as soon as possible.

The Brazilian centre-back has made seven Championship starts and quickly become a dependable figure at the back. He was recruited as part of the rebuild following relegation from the Premier League, with Nuno Espirito Santo, who knew him well, backed heavily to deliver an immediate return to the top flight.

Promotion Could Decide Morato’s Future

West Ham’s plan is to turn the loan into a permanent arrangement rather than send Morato back to Forest in the summer. However, the finances may hinge on promotion. Staying in the Championship would make a sizeable outlay far harder to justify, while a return to the Premier League would provide the funds and pull to complete the deal.

Back-to-back home defeats have left West Ham eighth, and Nuno’s sacking this week adds further uncertainty.

Our Take on the Managerial Question

Morato’s future is tied closely to the man he was brought in to serve. Rob Edwards and Scott Parker have both been linked with the vacancy, and either could view the defender differently from Nuno.

In our view, his familiarity with the club’s system makes a permanent deal sensible, but a new manager and the promotion race will shape whether it happens.
