Manchester United haven’t given up on Club Brugge full-back Joaquin Seys, with the Old Trafford club still tracking the Belgian ace as Benjamin Carrick hunts for a long-term answer at left-back, TEAMtalk report.
The Rise of Joaquin Seys
Seys’ story is a proper academy fairytale. Snapped up by Brugge at just seven years old after starting out at Oostende, he’s since worked his way from the youth ranks to becoming one of the club’s most trusted performers, pocketing a league title and cup silverware along the way.
The numbers back up the hype. Across 49 appearances last season, the 21-year-old racked up two goals, seven assists and five clean sheets. He hasn’t slowed down either — three assists and three shutouts already this term have helped fire Brugge to third in the Pro League, just a single point behind leaders Royale Union Saint-Gilloise. Belgium have now taken notice too, handing him a senior call-up for the first time.
Why United Are Still Watching
The left-back search has been a saga for United this year. Nathaniel Brown and Lewis Hall were both on the radar before deadline day, only for Bayern Munich to hijack the Brown deal and Newcastle to flatly refuse to sanction Hall’s exit. That left United scrambling for alternatives — and Seys emerged as a name they quietly liked but never pursued formally.
Recruitment chief Christopher Vivell is said to rate him highly, and scouts were dispatched to watch him bag two assists in a 3-0 romp over Genk. With Brugge under no financial pressure and Seys tied down until 2029, a £17m valuation looks like a bargain that won’t last.
My take? United shouldn’t dither this time. Seys ticks every box for the modern full-back role Carrick wants — athletic, progressive and already battle-tested in a title race. Hesitation cost them Brown and Hall; it could easily cost them Seys too.
