Newcastle United have been linked with a move for AS Monaco midfielder Mamadou Coulibaly, but they are far from alone in the chase.

According to Fussball News, Brentford, Napoli and Atletico Madrid are also monitoring the 22-year-old. No formal offer has arrived, yet his versatility and physique have placed him on several shortlists ahead of the winter transfer window.
Coulibaly is currently valued at roughly €20 million. However, the Ligue 1 leaders are expected to demand between €35 million and €40 million should genuine negotiations begin.
Monaco Reluctant to Sell Academy Graduate
Monaco have little interest in cashing in. Coulibaly progressed through the La Diagonale academy and is contracted until June 2028. Talks have already begun over an extension that would run until 2030.
Any suitor would therefore need to make a substantial commitment, and Monaco could also push for add-ons and a sell-on clause. At present, nothing suggests a January exit is imminent.
Why Newcastle Like Coulibaly
The left-footed midfielder is most comfortable in the centre, where he wins possession and drives forward with the ball. He can also operate on the right, offering a manager extra tactical flexibility.
That profile would suit Newcastle, whose midfield relies heavily on physical intensity and ground coverage. They have also been credited with an interest in Luca Weinhandl.
Injury History a Key Concern
Fitness is a significant factor. Coulibaly is recovering from a quadriceps problem after a serious cruciate ligament injury earlier in his career. Interested clubs are expected to track his comeback closely before deciding whether to move.
