Arsenal, Liverpool and Barcelona Battle to Sign Villarreal Playmaker Alberto Moleiro

Three European heavyweights are reportedly preparing to challenge for Alberto Moleiro ahead of the January 2027 transfer window, with the Villarreal attacker attracting serious interest.

According to Hooligan Soccer, Arsenal, Liverpool and Barcelona are all monitoring the 23-year-old, who can play on the left wing or as an advanced central playmaker.

Barcelona Hold the Emotional Edge

Barcelona sporting director Deco is said to be a long-term admirer of Moleiro, who has featured on the club’s attacking shortlist for several years. The Catalans reportedly view him as a priority, possibly even ahead of Nico Williams.

Moleiro is also understood to have grown up dreaming of playing for Barcelona and would reportedly prioritise a formal approach from them. That could complicate matters for Arsenal and Liverpool, who are both keeping a close watch. The Gunners have reportedly sent scouts, while the Reds are assessing his development and contract situation. Manchester City, Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund are also believed to be monitoring him.

Villarreal Hold Firm on Valuation

Villarreal are under no pressure to sell. Moleiro arrived from Las Palmas in 2025 and is tied to a contract until 2030, while his former club reportedly retain a sell-on clause. The valuation is said to be between €50 million and €60 million, and although formal talks have not started, intermediaries are already exploring a potential January move.

Opinion: Finances Could Open the Door

Barcelona’s personal appeal may count for plenty, but their well-documented financial constraints could yet play into the hands of their Premier League rivals. If Villarreal refuse to budge on price, Arsenal or Liverpool may be better placed to match the demands in cash terms.

For Arsenal, Moleiro would provide extra creativity on the left flank. Liverpool, meanwhile, could view him as a long-term answer in wide and attacking midfield areas. Either way, his versatility makes a bidding war look increasingly likely.
