Leeds United’s discussions with striker Lukas Nmecha over a new deal have reached a stalemate, with a lack of first-team football reportedly the main stumbling block, according to TEAMtalk. The 27-year-old Germany international is out of contract at the end of the season.

Why Nmecha Wants Guarantees at Elland Road
Nmecha arrived on a free transfer two summers ago and has played 37 times for Leeds, starting 17 matches and scoring seven goals. This campaign, however, he has managed just 75 Premier League minutes, all as a substitute, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin firmly established as Daniel Farke’s first-choice striker.
Leeds value his work-rate and versatility, but his camp is understood to want clearer assurances over his role before committing. That leaves the two sides some distance apart.
Nmecha Transfer Options Could Increase Pressure on Leeds
Several Championship clubs are reportedly monitoring the situation, while Bundesliga sides are also keeping tabs on a possible return to Germany. From January, Nmecha will be free to discuss a pre-contract agreement with overseas clubs, which adds urgency for Leeds.
Losing him for nothing next summer would be frustrating, particularly given he arrived without a fee.
Opinion: Ambition Could Outweigh Money
This looks like a standoff that ambition, rather than finances, will decide. At 27, Nmecha needs regular starts rather than a dependable bench role, and displacing an in-form Calvert-Lewin is a tall order.
Leeds, meanwhile, may struggle to promise game time Farke cannot realistically guarantee. Replacing him would also cost money for what might only be a squad option. Unless the Whites can offer a clearer pathway, Nmecha may feel his future lies elsewhere.
