Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly weighing up a January bid for Crystal Palace forward Jean-Philippe Mateta, according to TEAMtalk, as they look to strengthen their attack.

Spurs Draw Up Striker Shortlist
TEAMtalk claims a new centre-forward is Tottenham’s top priority for the winter window. Mateta, 29, is one of five options, alongside Vangelis Pavlidis, Endrick, Roberto Fernandez and Igor Matanovic. Pavlidis is reportedly the first choice, but heavy competition for the Greek forward, who is said to favour Barcelona, has pushed Spurs to explore alternatives.
Mateta’s Crystal Palace Record
Mateta arrived from Mainz on loan in January 2021 and joined permanently that summer. His form improved markedly under Oliver Glasner, and he has since contributed 62 goals and 14 assists in over 200 appearances. Despite an unsettled 2025/26 campaign, he still managed 16 goals and three assists in 50 games.
Why Tottenham Need Reinforcements
Spurs tried to sign the Frenchman earlier this year without success. Dominic Solanke has been hampered by fitness problems, Omar Marmoush is yet to settle, and Richarlison reportedly wanted to leave in the summer. Palace are said to be open to a January sale, though Manchester United are also interested.
Our Opinion
Mateta’s Premier League pedigree makes him a sensible fit, and remaining in London could appeal. However, at 29, paying a premium feels risky if Spurs want a long-term solution, and United’s interest could push the price up.
