Tottenham Must Pay €25-30m for Cruzeiro Goalkeeper Otavio

Tottenham Hotspur have sent scouts to watch Cruzeiro’s 20-year-old goalkeeper Otavio, according to TEAMtalk, as they weigh up a long-term option between the posts.

Spurs Face Competition for Otavio

Nottingham Forest have also scouted the Brazilian, while Napoli, Porto and Borussia Dortmund are reportedly monitoring his progress. Otavio became Cruzeiro’s first choice after veteran Cassio picked up an injury, and his displays in domestic and continental competition have attracted attention across Europe.

Forest made an approach worth around €13m this summer, but Cruzeiro rejected it outright.

Cruzeiro Hold the Upper Hand

Otavio signed a new contract in August running until 2031, including a €100m release clause for foreign clubs. Cruzeiro are not expecting that figure to be met, but an offer of €25-30m is reportedly the minimum required before serious talks begin.

The youngster has also earned a first senior Brazil call-up and made his debut in a friendly against Australia, which has only strengthened his profile.

Why Tottenham Need a Goalkeeping Option

Antonin Kinsky has been inconsistent since arriving in north London, so an alternative makes sense. Otavio’s shot-stopping, distribution and composure playing out from the back suit modern demands on goalkeepers.

Our Take

Spending €25-30m on a player yet to prove himself in Europe is a considerable gamble. Crosses, aerial pressure and the pace of English attacks would all be fresh challenges, so the scouting must be thorough. Even so, his age and rising reputation suggest the price will only climb, and Spurs risk paying far more by waiting.
